BACKGROUND:
Background
At the direction of the City Manager, staff conducted an update of Chapter 14, Animals, to remove animal licensing, resolve enforcement challenges, and align the Code with the current best practices and State Statutes.
Chapter 14 of the City Code, governing animal regulations, was originally adopted in 1996 and has been periodically amended to address new concerns and land use changes. In response to directions from the City Commission, staff undertook a review of the chapter to address enforcement challenges, incorporate resident feedback, and ensure alignment with current best practices and State Statutes. Until such time the ordinance is either approved or denied, staff recommend waving all animal license fees.
