BACKGROUND:

Background

Ordinance No. 20-2025 amends Section 70-30 and Section 110-814 of the Land Development Code to add definitions and updated regulations for barndominiums, metal buildings, and storage containers. The amendments establish standards related to screening, metal buildings, and storage containers. The amendments establish standards related to screening, materials, colors, height, and placement, and clarify where these structures are permitted. The changes are intended to provide clearer and more consistent standards for applicants and staff and improve compatibility with surrounding development. Staff finds the proposed amendments consistent with the Comprehensive Plan. The Planning and Zoning Board will hear the item at its regular meeting on May 20, 2026. Staff will provide an update to the Commission regarding the Board’s recommendation. The ordinance is recommended for approval at first reading.
