BACKGROUND:
Background
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection and St Johns Water Management District, in an effort to support sustainability and aquifer recharge, has supported and funded with a 50/50 grant the City of Deltona’s Upper Floridan Aquifer Alternative Water Supply Aquifer Recharge Injection Well project. This project is to construct One non-hazardous Class V aquifer recharge well and two (2) associated monitoring wells. These wells will provide information to evaluate the feasibility of future injection of treated surface water from Lake Monroe into the Upper Floridan Aquifer. Testing conducted for this project is only permitted to use potable water. Upon successful testing with potable water, Surface water from Lake Monroe will be treated to meet primary and secondary drinking water standards along with high level disinfection before being used to recharge the Upper Floridan Aquifer with a sustainable Alternative Water Supply source from Lake Monroe.
If the Commission approves this item, this grant will be included in Staff’s recommended Final Fiscal Year 2026 - 2027 Budget.
