BACKGROUND:
Background
The Fire Department, in collaboration with our ambulance vendor, has the opportunity to purchase a demonstration (demo) ambulance. This ambulance has the same chassis and size of treatment area as our current ambulances. This ambulance was designed by another fire department, so it has the necessary compartment space for the needed firefighting equipment as well, making it a versatile addition to our fleet. This unit is considered a demo because the financing from the original fire department fell through, but it remains a brand-new unit with zero miles.
Purchasing this demo unit will save us approximately $55,000. We can take delivery of this unit within approximately a month of providing the purchase order, avoiding the normal 12 - 14 month build times. This will allow us to retire our 2007 ambulance which is well past its service life. We are requesting the purchase of this demo ambulance and approval of the Budget Resolution 2024-38 to be able to make the necessary budget transfer in the amount of $425,000.
